How to Sign Up to Spotify Greenroom

Spotify is joining the social audio trend by releasing a new Clubhouse-like social audio app called Spotify Greenroom. The new app is available on both Android and iOS. Just like Clubhouse, Greenroom allows users to host and participate in live conversations.

When downloading the app, you will notice that it isn’t developed by Spotify but by a company called Betty Labs. The reason behind that is that Spotify Greenroom was built on a previous app called Locker Room developed by Betty Labs and was only focused on Sports. Spotify acquired the app and redesigned it to feature its iconic black and green design.

Unlike Locker Room, Greenroom will allow users to host and participate in conversations on a wide range of topics from music and pop culture to sports and fitness. Users can search for upcoming rooms, join live rooms, or host their own room. They can also record conversations so they can post them later on as podcasts.

How to sign up to Spotify Greenroom?

The easiest way to sign up to Greenroom is by using your Spotify login, but it’s not the only way. If you don’t have a Spotify account, you can still sign up to Greenroom using your information. All you have to do is to download the app and then tap on Sign up on the top-right corner. If you choose to sign up with your Spotify login, then you can tap on the green Continue with Spotify button.

After you sign up, you will be asked to choose between various topics and categories like your favorite music genres, sports teams, and cultural topics. This will help the app to suggest relevant rooms based on your interests. After choosing the topics that you’re interested in, the app will suggest a list of users that you might want to follow, you can unselect any of the users on that list. Once you are done with that, then you are set to go.

Can you make money on Spotify Greenroom?

While it’s still unclear how creators monetize their work on Greenroom, Spotify announced that they are launching a new Spotify Creator Fund which will help live audio creators monetize their work. Creators who are interested can sign up to the new Fund to find out more. However, according to Spotify the Fund is not open yet but will open later this summer.

Spotify is counting on bringing famous creators to the platform and allowing existing Spotify podcasters to host live podcasts on Greenroom, record them, and then distribute those podcasts on Spotify.

“We believe Spotify has an opportunity not only to enable live broadcasts, but to aid discovery, drive consumption, and accelerate growth of the live category overall. Today’s app unveiling is our opportunity to begin laying the foundation for the exciting roster of content and capabilities Spotify has in store in our venture into live audio.” said a blogpost by Spotify

Spotify is obviously not the only company to hop on the social audio train. Social audio is booming in 2021 since the launch of Clubhouse. Many companies are launching their own version of social audio platforms like Spaces on Twitter, Live Rooms on Facebook, and even Telegram has launched a new audio room feature.
