Ambeo Smart Headset: headphones with binaural recorder

Even though smartphone cameras nowadays are getting much better to the point that you can take a good high-quality video with them, you might come across an audio recording quality problem due to environmental noise. To improve this, Sennheiser has created Ambeo Smart Headset that uses companies signature sound quality, but at the same time offer a special microphone that records high-quality audio to match your videos.

The Ambeo Smart Headset is basically a binaural recorder and headphones all in one device. Talking first about the headphones, the part we are more used to seeing from, well, any company, they have a situational awareness control. This allows you to activate two other features, the transparent hearing that allows you to hear what is happening around you even with a headset on, but also the active noise canceling that completely blocks all surrounding noise. The headset can be used for listening to music or phone calls, much as any other pair of headphones.

Turning to the binaural recorder, Ambeo Smart Headset will work well with the default camera functions on your smartphone, connecting with it through the MFI-certified lightning connector on Apple devices. Basically what the end result of your recording process will be is a very high-quality 3D audio of the landscape around you due to the omnidirectional microphones located in each earpiece. This means that the sound you would naturally hear coming from behind you will sound during listening like it is actually still there.

The Ambeo Smart Headset app allows you to control your audio recording settings such as voice prompts, input level, EQ presets etc. You are only required to have at least 10.3.3 version or higher of iOS on your iPhone or iPad. Apple’s voice assistant Siri is also on your disposal through the headset. You get the option of different earbud sizes to make the headset even more comfortable and noise canceling feature more effective.

The colors available of the Ambeo Smart Headset are black and white, and you can purchase it from the Sennheiser’s website for $299.95. Unfortunately, the headset is compatible only with iOS but there might be an update coming up.
