Apple WWDC 2019: When Is It? What To Expect?

Apple’s annual developers’ event, WWDC 2019, is taking place in California, US from 3rd to 7th June. The expectations are mostly directed towards new software, for Mac and Apple TV in particular, as well as how the subscription services introduced earlier this year are going to be integrated with other Apple devices and services. There might be new hardware unveiled as well, but this is not a case each year at the developers’ conference as the company has another hardware-oriented event later in October. Here are things that you can expect to see in a couple of weeks from Apple.

macOS 10.15

There is very little known about the upcoming macOS 10.15, including the nature-related codename. There are no official features known but there are some that are expected to be apart of the new macOS including a Siri Shortcut, Screen Time as well as unique iMessage effects. Moreover, the Apple ID management is expected to be improved in the new version of macOS. The rumors about iTunes splitting into separate apps might also be apart of the update. Lastly, there is a possibility that Mac users will be able to link iPads to the computer and use them as secondary displays.

The new macOS 10.15 might not even be revealed at the event in next couple of weeks but rather later this year. Until then, you can enjoy updates of the current version of macOS 10.14, known as Mojave, which got long-awaited updates including the popular Dark Mode options as well as more creative tools.

iOS 13

Besides the new version of macOS, a new mobile operating system is expected to be revealed at WWDC 2019. Features that are expected to be seen include the Dark Mode, some kind of SwiftKey, improved Screen Time as well as app updates for Mail, Maps, Reminders, and update for Messages app that will make it more similar to what WhatsApp is like. The new update is probably going to contain a new iPad layout, as well as the potential possibility of using the iPad as a secondary screen to mac.

Moreover, with the increase in popularity of health apps and devices, Health app of iOS 13 is probably going to have some improvements as well, including a hearing section that would show data about the volume of noise or music. Lastly, a new app that merges features of Find My iPhone and Find My Friends might be released that relies on proximity to other devices instead of using WiFi.

iOS 13 is very probably going to be available for the developers within a week after the event with the beta version being released for a wider public several weeks after that. The official release is likely going to be officially released with the new iPhone 11 in October.

tvOS 13

Although it is expected that the new tvOS 13 is going to be announced at this years WWDC, there is nothing revealed about it in advance. What can be presumed is the integration with the Apple TV+, as well as Apple Arcade, the game streaming service that promises users they will be able to play games across devices, including those with tvOS. tvOS 13 is most likely going to be available for users in September, but more details will be revealed soon.

Meanwhile, Apple TV app has gotten an update recently, adjusting it for the upcoming Apple TV+ subscription service, as well as adding new sections dedicated for Kids and Sports.

watchOS 6

It is not certain that Apple will bring a new version of watchOS to its users at WWDC 2019, but there are some features that might be added to the operating system in the future, including a sleep tracker feature and an App Store app directly on the Apple Watch. This would allow third-party developers to create apps intended for the Watch itself and make them available through the App Store, while Apple will add its standard set of useful apps into the mix including Calculator, Voice Memos, Animoji and Memoji stickers as well as two new health apps, Dose and Cycle.

Other updates include a status bar that shows how far has an audiobook been listened, battery life of connected earphones and hearing aids, level of external noise that would be a part of iOS as well. Finally, we can expect new watch faces: “Gradient” that makes a gradient background, “X-Large” that shows large numbers and letters in different fonts and colors, “California” that will provide mix of Roman and Arabic numerals, and “Solar Analog” that would give the watch a look of a sundial.

Other reveals at WWDC 2019

Among the software reveals at the Apple event, the company is probably going to release the new version of Mac Pro, according to Bloomberg. The new model would come six years after its predecessor which means it is most likely going to have bigger updates. Furthermore, Apple might also announce its own external monitor brand that is expected to have HDR, 31.6 inches 6K screen and mini-LED backlight.
