Google Stadia: Everything you need to know

Instead of leaving the announcement for the E3 conference, Google used today’s press release to reveal more information about its new game streaming service, Google Stadia. Finally, everything you need to know about it before the release is known, from the games available at the launch to the price of the subscription and most importantly, when exactly is the release date.

How Does Google Stadia Work?

Even though it was expected that Google Stadia is going to be like “Netflix for games”, Google revealed today that in fact, it is going to work in a bit different way. Even though there is going to be a catalog of free games at some point with a fixed monthly subscription fee, this is not the main focus of the service. The catalog currently offers only one game, “Destiny 2”.

Google explained that users are going to be able to buy games, not just rent them, from the platform in a similar fashion as what is done on Steam. Games from Stadia can be played on Pixel 3 and Pixel 3A phones, as well as Chrome browser using an HID controller, but the list of compatible phones and platforms might expand over time.

Google Stadia Streaming Quality

Talking about the quality of the streaming, Google Stadia Pro is expected to offer 4K, 60fps to its users, as well as 5.1 surround sound with a requirement of 35 Mbps of bandwidth. Moreover, Pro will offer a free catalog and discounts on games for its subscribers. The free tier that is coming next year will have a 10 Mbps of bandwidth requirement, with 1080p60 and stereo sound.

Google Stadia Games

It is confirmed that there are over 20 studios working on several dozen games at the time for Google’s game service. The first set of games was announced during the E3 conference earlier this year, and the second one during the press event in August. The hardware kit is going to include a Chromecast Ultra for a TV, as well as a limited edition Stadia Controller in dark blue colorway. Another perk of the Founder’s Edition is the opportunity for users to choose a special username before other users join the service, as well as a free Destiny 2 game as long as they keep the monthly subscription for $10 after the first three months.

Price And Release Date Of Google Stadia

The official launch of Google Stadia is going to be on 14th of November 2019. Following that, in 2020, a free tier subscription is going to be added. The price of the Founder’s Edition is going to be $129 (it can vary according to the region), while a monthly subscription to the Pro service is going to be $10 per month. An individual controller can be purchased for $70.
