Galaxy Tab S6: Everything You Need To Know

Galaxy Tab S6 was one of three Samsung devices in the spotlight, alongside the Galaxy Watch Active 2 and Note 10. The three devices were predicted to be revealed at the official Note 10 launch event on August 7th, but Samsung surprised everyone by posting a video teaser yesterday announcing the Tab S6 to be released today, a week earlier than expected. We finally know everything there is to know about the device, and we bring you all Galaxy Tab S6 specs and features you need to know, as well as the price and availability.

Galaxy Tab S6 Specs

Galaxy Tab S6 is the latest addition to 2-in-1 tablets family of devices that can serve as both tablets and laptops. The name is a bit odd considering that there is no “Tab S5” model, but nevertheless, the new generation of this Galaxy tablet brings quite a few improvements we can be excited about.

Talking about the specs of the Galaxy Tab S6, we should first mention the CPU. The tablet will feature the latest Snapdragon 855 processor from Qualcomm which is present in the latest Android smartphones revealed this year. There will be two combinations of internal specs available: one with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage and the other with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. For those who require even more storage, there is a MicroSD card slot.

The battery of the new Tab S6 is a bit weaker than that of the previous Galaxy tablet but is nevertheless able to support 15 hours of use on a single charge as it features 7,040 mAh battery.

Camera

Among bigger changes in the new Galaxy tablet generation is the addition of the dual-camera setup instead of the single-camera that was used until now. Tab S6 is going to have a 13 megapixels main sensor in combination with a 5-megapixel wide-angle lens that offers 123 degrees shots, while the front camera will have an 8-megapixel lens. Talking about the video quality, it is pretty much the same as that of its predecessor with the 4K at 30fps, but the playback can reach up to 8K at 30fps.

OS: One UI

The new tablet by Samsung is going to run on the company’s One UI which can already be seen on the latest smartphones. It is based on Android Pie (Android 9) but it has been modified and added some features that could be an exciting addition to everyday use of tablet including the Game Booster feature. The new feature will use artificial intelligence to keep track of the apps and processes and their effect on battery and performance, and in return, optimize it to provide better gaming experience. Furthermore, gamer messaging app Discord partnered with Samsung to bring its users in-game chat functionality. Lastly, DeX, desktop computer interface, is even further optimized for more convenient use instead of a laptop.

Galaxy Tab S6 Design

From the first look, Tab S6 does not look much different from its predecessor as the displays are pretty much the same 10.5-inch Super AMOLED displays. It is worth noting that it has in-display fingerprint reader as well. The minimal changes include a bit thinner bezels and a bit more rounded corners and that is pretty much it. Until you check the backside where the biggest change comes to light.

The first thing that Samsung did differently for its latest tablet is the use of full aluminum body instead of the glass-back, that includes the LTE antenna, dual-camera setup and an indent that is intended for the S-Pen. For the first time ever, users can store the pen together with the device as it will magnetically fit into its place and even be wirelessly charged by the tablet itself.

Other important design-related features include the quad-speaker setup that has Dolby Atmos support. Samsung also collaborated to add Sound by AKG to the tablet. Finally, as mentioned before, there is only the USB-C port for charging which means, due to the lack of headphone jack, you will need to use either wireless headphones or those with a USB-C plug.

Galaxy Tab S6 Accessories

The first accessory that goes along with the new Tab S is the S-Pen that can now be used as a remote control for the tablet through Bluetooth. The new feature, called Air Actions, means that if you are at up to 10 meters distance from the tablet, you can use the pen to take photos or videos, scroll through media and more. For example, you can change the camera mode by pressing the button and waving your hand at the tablet, all without actually touching the screen.

Besides the pen, the tablet is compatible with a keyboard, more specifically Samsung’s Book Cover Keyboard. Even though this is not a new thing, the redesign adds quite a bit more functionality to it. The addition of the trackpad and the quick access function keys makes the tablet easier to use in DeX. The other change is the overall design as the keyboard is now comprised of two separate pieces, one being magnetically attachable keyboard and the other a stand for the backside of the device. The perk of this design is that you can remove the keyboard but still use the stand.

Galaxy Tab S6 Price And Release Date

We will be looking at three color options: Mountain Gray, Cloud Blue, and Rose Blush.
