Google Clips, a new AI Powered camera that will amazes you

We, the humans, took the first picture ever back in 1827. With time, photography evolved more and more and, by the beginning of the 21st century, digital cameras appeared in the world: a small device with a lens and a screen to display the pictures. But we are still evolving and improving every aspect of our lives, and that includes taking photos and capturing memories. We can call our age, right now, the age of AI. In the next few years, AI would touch every part of our lives. And when we think about someone to introduce something related to AI, who is better than Google, the tech giant has proved itself in every field, and AI gadgets is not an exception.

Google Clips is a small AI powered camera, was introduced last October at the “Google Pixel 2” launch event. The camera uses artificial intelligence to decide when it should take a picture. The small device was trained by professional photographers, according to Google, and it can take pictures and soundless short videos by itself.

The goal of the camera is to allow people to enjoy every moment of their lives, without being busy taking photos and by that missing a lot of joyful moments and a lot of good pictures that are worth capturing.

“This year, people will take about a trillion photos, and for many of us, that means a digital photo gallery filled with images that we won’t actually look at.” Google said.

And when you think about it, this is actually true, we spend so much time taking pictures that we don’t actually like.

Google used a new strategy called “human-centered machine learning” to train the AI camera after gathering a team of professional photographers and journalists who tried to answer the question “what makes a memorable moment?”.

Clips team ended up teaching the AI camera what makes a photo bad. This saved them a lot of time, and the camera basically would search for mistakes in each photo it takes to choose the perfect photo to save. After that they had to train the AI on things like stability, sharpness, lighting, and even editing.

Oh we almost forgot that it’s a camera, so let’s take a closer look on the specifications.

Google clips weights 60.5 grams, with a battery that lasts for 3 hours of smart capturing.

The small shape with the lens allow the camera to take pictures with 130-degree field-view and it has a 16 GB internal storage. And we forgot to mention that all photos would be saved on the camera, and transferred to your phone via Wi-Fi direct or Bluetooth. The camera has a USB Type-C port for charging. You can also find a clip stand in the box to help you place the camera anywhere.

As usual, with any new AI gadget, a lot of voices would rise to say that it’s dangerous and to warn everyone from AI and how it can affect us. To reply, Google made sure that there is no microphone in the camera, and that it’s not connected to the internet, so no one can steal your photos.

“Success with Clips isn’t just about keeps, deletes, clicks, and edits (though those are important), it’s about authorship, co-learning, and adaptation over time,” Google says.

Google Clips cost $249, but unfortunately, the camera is sold out for now. But, you can still go to Google website and join the waitlist.
