iPhone 11 Release Date, Specs & Design Rumors

Google and Samsung are not the only ones who are preparing themselves for their upcoming smartphone releases. Apple fans are also excited about the new iPhone 11 line-up and, as the predicted release date slowly approaches, there are numerous rumors to consider and features to look forward to, including completely new and improved camera setup, bi-directional charging and minimized notch. And yes, perhaps the new AirPods 3. Keep on reading as we bring you all the important things you need to know about the upcoming iPhone 11: the release date, price, and the most exciting iPhone 11 features.

iPhone 11 Camera

iPhones, in general, are not known for the best of the best cameras even though they do perform good overall. Based on the rumors, it seems that Apple is working on improving this aspect of its flagship as the new iPhone 11 features are expected to include a triple rear camera setup. This is supposed to bring a huge improvement to the camera performance, offering 3D sensing, use of stereoscopic vision and improvement of the augmented reality capabilities that Apple has been focusing on in the past few years. We are still unsure whether these rumors only to be related to the 11 Max model and not the other two, or all three models are getting this dramatical camera upgrade.

Having a triple camera setup would look quite different than what we are used to from iPhones, and not as pretty as well. Based on Mark Gurman’s leak, the lenses will be in a triangular formation.  Kuo explained that Apple developed a way to hide the third camera with a dark coating over the lens which would make it less apparent. The front camera, expected to be 12 megapixels instead of last years 7 megapixels, also has a chance to have the same dark coating to conceal it.

iPhone 11 Design

Based on the renders and, against rumors that claimed that Apple’s upcoming smartphone will be notch-less, it seems that the company is sticking with the notch for at least this generation more. The design overall is not expected to change all that much but what we will most probably see is a thinner notch as the devices will have a minimized True Depth front-facing camera and theFace ID. The renders also show that the buttons will be in the same position as in the 2018 models.

While on the topic of design, we can expect new color options for the upcoming iPhone 11 line-up. Last year’s XR was available in six different color options: black, white, blue, yellow, red and coral, which makes us confident that this year is going to bring another series of colorful options. Based on Mark Gurman, the new line-up will include lavender and green/teal options, besides the more standard and already seen yellow, black and white. There is a chance for a red version as well, but it was not showed in his tweet.

iPhone 11 Display

iPhone 11 and the other two models accompanying it are most likely all going to have an OLED screen. There is still a chance that the cheapest model, that is 11R, will feature an LCD panel but we would need to wait for the official release to know for sure. We can expect three display sizes: 5.4-inch, 6.1-inch and 6.7 inches for iPhone 11R, 11 and 11 Max respectively, but there might be slight differences by the time the devices are officially released. There were certain rumors that the upcoming iPhone models will feature an in-display fingerprint but this is probably going to be included in next years model rather than this one.

3D Touch was apart of iPhones since 2014 and the debut of the iPhone 6s but it seems that this year’s model is going to ditch it completely. Even though this feature allowed a bit more interaction with the apps and iOS, it is not a necessity and would overall decrease the cost of production without much harm done. This is also supported by the new iOS 13 that is going to get Quick View and Peak features to all iPhones, not only those with 3D Touch.

A feature many are excited for is Apple Pencil compatibility. The Pencil is currently only compatible with iPad Pro and iPad Mini devices, but this year’s iPhones might be the ones that make the big change. Considering the features of the Apple Pencil 2, it would be quite convenient to have it on the go or in the meetings. Maybe the company will release a new Pencil just for its smartphone lineup, but this is not sure yet.

iPhone 11 Features

Talking about the features, there are quite a lot of things to cover, starting with the processor. Apple seems to be going with TSMC for the processors, the company that it has relied on for quite a while now. The specific chip is not yet known, but it can be expected that it is more powerful than A12 Bionic chip used for XS and XS Max. Besides the obvious improvements to the processing power and graphics, the new chip will assist the AR apps that Apple is expected to start releasing starting next year.

When it comes to 5G network capabilities, this year’s line-up is almost certainly not going to have this feature. But rumor has it that at least two models in 2020 line-up will have a 5G network, if not all of them. Most probably iPhone 11 would come in both options, with a cheaper price point for the one with 5G connectivity. This step is highly expected as most recent smartphones scheduled for this year and the next one in this price range will also be introducing 5G to its users.

Talking about the battery life, there are some rumors from earlier this year that mention the addition of bi-directional charging feature available in iPhone 11 line-up which is why the battery would be slightly improved. Based on this, we are more likely seeing 3,500 mAh and 3,650 mAh on 11 and 11 Max respectively.  The idea of USB-C port was tossed around as this would significantly improve the charging speed of the devices, but nothing was confirmed to this moment.

iPhone 11 Price

There is no official pricing that we can rely on but we can consider the latest iPhone XR and XS for the price ratio. iPhone XR is currently $749, XS is $999 while the most expensive iPhone at the moment, iPhone XS Max is sold for $1,149. We can expect from Apple to go with similar prices for the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Max and iPhone 11R. At the same time, 11R might be a direct competitor to Google’s Pixel 3a meaning the price might also be up to a $100 lower than that of XR. There are some rumors that the new iPhones will be between $100 and $200 more expensive than XR and XS, but as the sources are not confirmed, this idea should not be taken too seriously.

iPhone 11 Release Date

Referring to the launch of iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR, the launch of the new iPhone can be expected for the second week of September. This means that the official launch would happen around 12th of September but the phones will be released for sale a week or 10 days later with the exception of 11R which would be on the shelves by the end of October. Other predictions set the date on September 10th as that is a Tuesday which matches the launch in the previous years.

At the same time, Verizon marketing document was leaked which insinuates that the launch date of the new iPhones will be by the end of September. We are not sure whether it refers to the launch event or the actual sales launch. Nevertheless, the September release date is not in question including all the new iPhone 11 features, with e a closer date announcement coming soon.

AirPods 3

Apple fans had waited too long before the release of the successor of the original AirPods as the AirPods 2 was released in March 2019 after three long years. As that happened less than half a year ago, no one expected to see the new generation any time soon, but apparently, according to MacRumors, Apple is planning on launching AirPods 3 before the end of 2019.

The new AirPods model is expected to include everything the second one didn’t but was longed for by the users. This means that we might be looking at the next Apple earbuds with an IP rating for water and dust and noise canceling feature.

Certain design enhancements were mentioned as well but we still do not have predictions as what that may include. Any design improvement would be a very well welcomed feature as the latest model looks exactly the same as the original, with only internal improvements. This might mean that the signature “tail” is gone, or something less drastic, perhaps new color options. At the same time, there are some mentions of over-the-ear headphones by Apple that were mentioned a couple of times last year but never came to light.
