Google Pixel 4a Is Now Available For Pre-order

After canceling its developers’ global conference that was supposed to take place in May due to the current pandemic. Google is finally announcing the release of its new collection of Pixel smartphones. The tech giant announced the Pixel 4a which is available for pre-order now, as well as two more phones, the Pixel 4a 5G, and the Pixel 5 which will be available later this year.

Perhaps the most surprising thing about the new Pixel 4a is its price, it will sell for $349 which is lower than most entry-level smartphones out there, that’s $50 less than the iPhone SE and even cheaper than its predecessor the Pixel 3A. The decrease in price is most probably due to the delay in the release of Google’s new mid-ranger.

Looking at the price tag, you don’t expect the new 4A to perform well, but when you look at the specs, you would notice that Google covered everything you would need in an Android phone. Although there were many rumors that it will come in two different sizes, Google is releasing the Pixel 4a in one standard size, and one color option “Just Black”.

Google is keeping the same camera that is used in Pixel 3, 3A, and Pixel 4. There’s no doubt that you can find a better phone camera on the market, but it is still one of the best phone cameras out there.

The Google Pixel 4a features a 5.8-inch OLED 1080p display with a hole-punch which is the first time Google used the hole-punch design in any of its phones. Although the screen size is smaller than most new smartphones, it’s still good for the price, we also expect the new phone to feel comfortable in hands just like any other Pixel phone.

When it comes to the RAM and storage, Pixel 4a features a 6GB RAM which is quite enough to run Android 10 smoothly, Google is also promising software updates for the next three years which is promising. It also has 128GB of storage, that’s surprising for a mid-ranger, this is double the storage of the entry-level iPhone SE, meaning if we are to compare between the two phones with the same storage, the Pixel is $100 cheaper than the iPhone SE.

The new mid-ranger ships with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G which is good for such a price, but there’s no guarantee that such a chip will keep performing well over the years. This is where the iPhone SE beats the Pixel as it features Apple’s own A13 Bionic.

Perhaps Google realized that such a phone needs a bigger battery, so the new Pixel features a 3,140mAh battery which is bigger than Pixel 4’s battery. Google is keeping things traditional as the new Pixel still features a headphone jack which is becoming so rare in new smartphones, it also features stereo speakers and a fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone.

As we mentioned earlier, the Google Pixel 4a is available right now for pre-order for $349 and it will ship on August 20th. For such a price and Google’s quality, and software updates, this is probably the best mid-ranger phone you can buy right now, but it’s worth remembering that it doesn’t support 5G, so if you are looking forward to using 5G, perhaps you should wait a bit more for the Pixel 4a 5G
