Domio Pro: helmet audio and communication system

People who enjoy driving a motorcycle or outdoor sports know how hard it is to find headphones that are comfortable to wear under the helmet and yet safe without cancelling the sounds from the surrounding. Simply, music and activities that require a helmet don’t really mix. But, Domio Sports, a Canadian based company, took a completely different approach to solving this problem, realising that air is not the only medium sound goes through well. This is why they created the unique Domio Pro which transforms any helmet into audio and voice communication system.

Domio Pro system does not require any wires, speakers or earbuds on the inside of the helmet meaning that it does not compromise the comfort for the sake of listening to music while riding. It uses Vibro-Audio technology that sends micro-vibration pulses to send sound through the hard shell of the helmet. It takes advantage of the dome shape and in return creates stereo sound experience. The structure of the helmet is, surprisingly, a pretty good medium for sound to travel through so you will still get impressive listening experience and amazing audio fidelity as well as bass, without having your ears obstructed with additional devices.

The voice communication system of Domio Pro is the newest idea of Domio Sports. Air Mic is microphone that uses wireless noise cancelling and allows you to communicate with others with voice isolation. The devices itself in Domio Pro system are created having in mind that they are supposed to be used in harsh environments. They are rubberised which makes them resistant to water meaning that you can listen to music while driving your motorcycle even in rain without any damage. Furthermore, they can withstand dirt and heavy snow. The mounts that are attached to the helmet are strongly fixed to it so the devices will withstand any impact and stay safely attached in place, without you worrying about losing them along the way.

Domio Pro system’s audio device can be mounted in any position on the helmet, top, side, back, wherever it is convenient for you to access the device controls. On the other hand, Air Mic device should be closer to the mouth so that it can clearly pick up speech and analyse it. There is also an option of mounting it on the front but inside of the full-faced helmets, but as it is a thin device, it will not obstruct you on your ride. In the device bundle, you get the audio and communication devices, carrying pouch, charging cable as well as 4 mounts, 2 for each device. This means that you can use the same Domio Pro system on more than one helmet.

The audio device and Air Mic are both chargeable using an micro USB port but that won’t be as often necessary as they have a very good battery life of around 24 hours of playback time.  Domio Pro system uses Bluetooth 5.0 to pair with smartphone operating with both Android and iOS, making it compatible with almost all devices in the market.

The Domio Pro audio and communication helmet system is available on crowdfunding website Kickstarter which you can order it from. If you only need the Domio Pro audio device, there is an offer for $99 which ships later this year, in September. When it comes to the whole Domio Pro helmet system, you can check out their Early Bird offer for $139 or the Kickstarter Special offer for $149. And if you are a really big skiing or motorcycle fan, you can check out their other event offers in bundle with the device.

  1. Wow, what a brilliant technology – You can mount it on your helmet, connect it to your phone and listen to your favorite music while traveling. You can even talk to your dear ones!! I’m loving this.
